Gaelic Assessment

The Gaelic Assessment Scheme continues to see competitors making further and continued progress in learning the language in order to gain the cards they need, to compete and take part at the Mòd.

The scheme acts as a benchmark to verify competitors’ fluency levels in competitions and uphold the standard of linguistic skill. As a result of this, the scheme is contributing to the wider role of increasing Gaelic fluency levels among adults.

The Gaelic Assessment Scheme was reformed in 2012 and since the scheme has seen many people attempting to gain their respective level of fluency cards.

There are sample conversations available below to let competitors see what key structures they should be able to use and the standard of conversation expected for each level. Trained assessors will have a check list to ensure the objectivity and fairness of any assessment.

Prospective competitors may use any learning method or resources they wish to achieve the fluency required to attain their respective card. An Comunn Gaidhealach recommend that anyone wishing to learn Gaelic in order to gain cards for entry to Mod competitions should visit

.

Please note that all the competitors needing Gaelic Assessment for the Royal National Mòd will be required to gain their card before entering competitions.
