Comunn Gàidhealach Leòdhais hailed the success of the local Mod, which took place between 28 May & 1 June.
With approximately 650 individual competitiors taking part in over 50 competitions, it appears the Gaelic language and culture is thriving in what is regarded as the traditional stronghold of the language.
This was the first ever Lewis Mod to be held since a re-organisation in the schools estate on the island and competitor numbers have held up very well.
Mod convener Amy MacAulay said: “This was once again a very good Mod. We are very impressed with the levels of fluency among the children and particularly with how strong the local dialects remain. It shows the work that is going on in all our schools in the islands and among the parents.
A new non-competitive event for P1-4 Choirs featured as part of this year’s Mod programme, which saw a number of schools perform in the Town Hall to a packed and very appreciative audience.
“We would like to thanks all our helpers, the adjudicators, the stewards and the teachers, but especially the children who make all the effort worthwhile.”
