The Islay Mòd held in Islay High School on Saturday 2nd June was an entirely local event, with 150 competitors taking part in 47 competitions throughout the day, and of particular note is the fact that for the first time in around twenty years every primary school on the island was represented by a choir.
Also of note is the range of competitions, particularly those recently created to accommodate students from Fèis Oigridh Ile agus Dhiùra who are tutored in Clarsach, Fiddle and Whistle. In 2010-12 an additional 21 trophies were purchased for new competitions and for existing competitions that did not have a trophy.
The Islay High School Assembly Hall was packed-full for the evening Prizewinners Concert, giving all who attended an opportunity to hear the wonderful talent on display. Something worth commenting on, and which is evident at the National and other Mòds, is the relationship between participants: everyone is friendly and work together with a common aim: that of maintaining our Gaelic and Musical tradition and culture. We all look forward to the Royal National Mod in Dunoon, and to another successful Islay Mòd in 2013.
