Remembering Iain Mackay

Published: 20 Nov 2020

We were saddened to learn of the death of a dear friend yesterday, Iain Mackay, who passed away at the age of 78. Iain was one of the greatest and most renowned Gaelic singers of all time. He brought great joy to us all over the years with his wonderful singing voice.

Iain, from Point on the Isle of Lewis, won the An Comunn Gàidhealach Traditional Gold Medal at the Royal National Mod in Inverness in 1972. Shortly after that he also won the Traditional Medal at the Pan Celtic Festival in Killarney, Ireland.

Our thoughts are with Iain’s wife Dollag and family and friends at this sad time. He will be greatly missed.
