Murdo takes over Pan Celtic Presidency

With the 40th International Pan Celtic Festival set to take place in Dingle, Co. Kerry next week, it has been announced that Murdo Morrison will take up the role of President of the International Pan Celtic Festival President for 2011.

Murdo Morrison is Marketing Manager with MG ALBA (Gaelic Media Service) in Stornoway and was formerly Promotion Manager for the Royal National Mod in Scotland. Murdo has retained close links with major cultural events such as the Royal National Mod, International Pan Celtic Festival, the Eisteddfod in Wales and An t-Oireachtas for many years and is delighted to accept the honour of the Presidency for 2011.

Mr Morrison said “I am extremely proud that I was asked to take on the role of President for the International Pan Celtic Festival 2011. I am very much looking forward to meeting up with representatives and many old friends from the various Celtic countries in Dingle next week.

In my job as Marketing Manager with MG ALBA we have just seen a very successful Celtic Media Festival in Stornoway and I am sure that the International Pan Celtic Festival in Dingle will be equally successful”

The 40th International Pan Celtic Festival will return to the Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry, Ireland and will take place from Tuesday 26 April to Sunday 1st May. This beautiful area, with its majestic seascapes and rugged coastline, will be an enriching experience for the many from throughout the Celtic Nations who will be there to savour the distinct blends of Celtic culture and music playing during the five day festival.

Hailed as one of the greatest gatherings of the Celtic people, the International Pan Celtic Festival represents a rare opportunity for the promotion of the Gaelic language, music and song on an international stage. As one of our longest established festivals, it is acknowledged as one of the most friendly and enjoyable, with its hospitality and friendship, a colourful street parade, competitions and Celtic club nights.

Following on from the official opening on the Tuesday night, top singers and musicians from all the Celtic nations will perform in a variety of competitions and fringe events. In addition to the traditional sessions and cèilidhs, visits to peripheral villages are also an important part of the event.

Gaelic language classes will be available throughout the week. The grand finale of the week is the Scottish Night, where Robert Nairn and the Vatersay Boys along with some of our finest Gaelic singers and other talented performers will play host to all the other Celtic nations. Both Traditional Gold Medallists from the Royal National Mod are also expected to attend.

A special feature of this year’s festival is the “Regional Development in Minority Language Areas” symposium, where Councillor John A MacIver, himself a former President, will represent Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, to speak about their Gaelic Language Plan.
