Glasgow ready to lift the curtain on greatest Gaelic cultural gathering

​The trophies are being polished, dancing shoes are being dusted off, and rehearsals are underway as Glasgow gets ready to lift the curtain on the world’s greatest celebration of Scottish Gaelic, for the Royal National Mòd arriving in the city in less than two weeks’ time.

The epic cultural gathering and multi-arts festival, which draws thousands to its host location each year, will return to Glasgow for the 13th time and first time since 2019 for what may be a record-breaking edition, from 9 – 17 October 2026.

From a Gaelic DJ night, flagship song competitions and a pop-up performance in Central Station, to a football match honouring the legendary Gaelic-speaking ‘Firhill Flyer’ Jonny MacKenzie and a concert of island talent featuring no less than 50 singers, pipers and musicians, the Mòd programme is bursting with an array of spectacular events.

Celebrating Scotland’s linguistic and cultural heritage, the bright future of Gaelic and the city’s close ties to Gaelic, the event will welcome more than 2,000 competitors and total attendances of around 10,000 spread out the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and 15 other city venues.

Alongside flagship competitions across the week, audiences will be able to enjoy art exhibitions, traditional music sessions, family cèilidhs, Highland dancing, intimate concerts, and more. A huge cèilidh taking over the Barrowland Ballroom and a free showcase of Gaelic choral singing on Sauchiehall Street will round off the week.

Peigi MacLennan, Chief Executive Officer of Royal National Mòd organisers An Comunn Gàidhealach, said: “As autumn arrives, it brings with it the highlight of the Gaelic cultural calendar – the Royal National Mòd, and this year it is Glasgow’s turn to host. Final preparations are well underway as we get ready to honour the rich history of Gaelic, and celebrate where the language and culture is today, and where it’s going. For nine days, Gaelic language and culture will be seen, heard, sung and celebrated throughout Glasgow - we cannot wait to share that with the city.”

This year’s Royal National Mòd in Glasgow is supported by Glasgow Life, Bòrd na Gàidhlig, The Scottish Government, VisitScotland, Caledonian MacBrayne, BBC ALBA, Creative Scotland and Qualifications Scotland.
