Gearing up for Barra Mod

Following a highly successful event last year, expectations are rising for this year’s Mod Ionadail Bharraigh is Bhatarsaigh.

Eight junior choirs competed in 2011 along with soloists and a lovely atmosphere was created at the fledgeling event.

This year the new Lochaline adult choir will be competeing and bringing their soloists and musicians.

Instrumental competitions including junior fiddle, accordion, clarsach and instrumental groups will take place on the Friday evening, 21 September, with junior Piping and drumming, junior and senior Oral, Vocal and Choral events.

The prize winner’s Ceilidh Dance will be held on Saturday 22nd September with Gold medallists Paul MacCallum and Alasdair Whyte, drama, waulking groups, folk group and action songs also included to allow local groups to showcase their talents.

Junior written stories in Gaelic and posters should also be entered by the closing date of 24th August.
