Change in Scheduling for Mod 2015

Published: 20 May 2015

With entries for Am Mòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail 2015 coming in thick and fast, Mod organisers An Comunn Gàidhealach are busy preparing for this year’s event, to be held in Oban for the sixteenth time in its history. Although many entries have already been received and
processed, An Comunn Gàidhealach expects a considerable influx before the closing date of 1st June 2015 and it is stressing the importance of complete entries being received on time.

Janet MacDonald, Royal National Mod Director reiterated this view as well by announcing a change to the scheduling of the prestigious Gold Medal Final competition. “This Gold Medal Final will now be broadcast live on BBC Alba and Radio nan Gàidheal on the Wednesday evening of Mòd week, following the success of a similar move for the Seann Nòs Final a few years ago. Qualifiers for the Gold Medal will be held, as usual, during Wednesday, while the Seann Nòs Qualifiers will now take place during the day on
Thursday. Silver Pendant qualifying competitions will be on Wednesday morning, with the Final taking place in the afternoon. An Comunn Gàidhealach hopes these moves will be welcomed by competitors and audiences alike.

We would welcome entries being submitted on time and it is important that you check the website and syllabuses for confirmation of any changes that have been introduced this year. Competitors are reminded that entries can be submitted online.”

The return of Gaeldom’s premier cultural festival was welcomed by Convener of the Local Organising Committee, Duncan MacDonald. “The Local Organising Committee are seeing the efforts of the last two years coming to fruition and, as does all of Oban, look forward to welcoming young and old to a key event in the cultural calendar of Scotland. Being the “birth place” of the Mod an Oban Mod is always special .With excellent facilities for the competitive and social sides of
the occasion the town knows what a Mòd is about and you will sense this when you arrive. We will endeavour to do all that we can to make this a truly memorable experience for you.”

Argyll & Bute Council are also looking forward to the Mòd returning to Oban, which is always a popular location with Mòd participants and audiences. Policy Lead for Strategic Housing, Gaelic, Community and Culture at Argyll & Bute, Robin
Currie, said, “Argyll & Bute Council are delighted to support the event this year and are looking forward to welcoming the influx of competitors and visitors to the event.”

Am Mòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail will be held in Oban between 9-17 October 2015. For any further information regarding Am Mòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail or Mòd an Òbain, please visit www.ancomunn.co.uk or www.modanobain2015.com.
