We are very pleased to announce that Peigi MacLennan, An Comunn Gàidhealach’s Secretary and Stornoway Office Manager, has been inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame for her services to the community.
Many of you will know Peigi from the Royal National Mòd where she has been a member of staff since 1999. Peigi is also heavily involved in the organisation of the Lewis Provincial Mòd, dedicating many hours of her time voluntarily along with the Committee to organise the event.
Peigi’s love for Gaelic language, song, music and culture is evident and has been passed onto youngsters through Mòds and Fèisean at a local and national level. Peigi has been involved in Fèis Eilean an Fhraoich for many years and is currently chairperson of the Committee. She also organises and attends weekly group-work classes for youngsters in the area.
Peigi works tirelessly to support the growth of the Gaelic music scene in Lewis. Her passion for promoting Gaelic langauge and culture within the community has encouraged many youngsters to continue with their Gaelic singing and traditional music over the years and many youngsters that she has supported through the Fèis have gone on to pursue a career in the field.
In addition to her involvement in the Fèisean and Mòds, Peigi is an active member of the Lewis & Harris Accordion and Fiddle Club; a devoted committee member of the Newton Community Assocation; a Director of Acair, a Gaelic publishing company based in Stornoway and had served as a member on Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s Board of Directors for a number of years. It is her passion and commitment to her community that saw Peigi being awarded for Community Public Service in Stornoway in 2016.
I am sure that you will all agree that this award is very well deserved and we are very proud of Peigi receiving this recognition. Congratulations, Peigi.
