Glasgow invited to experience Gaelic culture with six months to go until Royal National Mòd return

Published: 09 Apr 2026

Massed choirs on Buchanan Street With six months to go until the Royal National Mòd returns to Glasgow, local organisers have announced a string of events to get audiences in the festival spirit, ahead of Scotland’s premier celebration of Gaelic language, music and culture.

Monthly events across April, May and June will pave the way for the Glasgow Mòd, celebrating all things Celtic music, culture, food and drink and giving the city a taste of what to expect when the world’s biggest celebration of Scottish Gaelic language and culture arrives this October.

A family cèilidh led by the Eriskay Lilt cèilidh outfit on Friday 24 April at the Glasgow University Union will welcome audiences of all ages to experience traditional music and dance in a relaxed, welcoming environment, while a quiz night in the award-winning Park Bar on Thursday 14 May will bring Gaels and Gaelic supporters together for an evening of fun, friendly competition.

A city centre gin tasting on Saturday 6 June will showcase the finest spirits produced in Gaelic speaking areas across Scotland as guests are invited to raise a toast of the return of the Mòd to Glasgow for the first time in seven years.

Funds raised from each of the events will support the local organising committee in bringing a packed programme of fringe activities together during Mòd week itself, helping ensure the event is a far-reaching citywide celebration.

Taking place from Friday 9 – Saturday 17 October, the Royal National Mòd is a vibrant, multi-arts festival and one of Scotland’s most significant cultural events, welcoming participants and audiences of all backgrounds to enjoy competitions, concerts, talks, sessions, workshops and cèilidhs.

The road to the Glasgow Mòd will be marked with several milestones. The competition entry deadline closes on Sunday 31 May, and the full fringe and competition programme will be announced in the coming months.

D-I Brown, Convenor of the Local Organising Committee for the Royal National Mòd 2026 in Glasgow, said: “With six months to go until the Mòd returns to its urban heartland in Glasgow, it’s fantastic to share details of these events to get everyone in the festival spirit. The gatherings will bring people together, from fluent Gaelic speakers and those learning the language, to anyone curious about Scottish culture, building excitement for what promises to be an unforgettable year of Gaelic cultural celebration.”

The 2025 Mòd in Lochaber saw more than 9,400 attendances across its nine days and generated £3.9 million to the local economy.

The Royal National Mòd returns to Glasgow in 2026, from 9 – 17 October. For more information on the local Glasgow events visit this page. https://linktr.ee/ModGhlaschu2026.
