Royal National Mòd’s closing date draws near for online applicants

Published: 23 Jun 2016

Entries for Am Mòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail 2016 are coming in thick and fast, but competitors entering online are reminded that the closing date for entries is 30th June. The 2016 Mòd will be held in the Western Isles, for the sixth time in its history.

Janet MacDonald, Royal National Mòd Director reiterated this view by stating that “We hope that competitors will take full advantage of the extended closing date for competitions and get their entries in to us on time. The new, recently developed online entry system has proved popular and has been used by many competitors already with many more expected before the 30th June deadline. If competitors experience any problems with entering we’d ask them to contact An Comunn Gàidhealach for guidance.”

“The Gold Medal Final will again be broadcast live on BBC Alba and Radio nan Gàidheal on the Wednesday evening of Mòd week, following the success of a similar move for the Seann Nòs Final a few years ago. This change has been very much welcomed by competitors and audiences alike and we’re delighted that a larger audience has the opportunity to watch these competitions now.”

The return of Gaeldom’s premier cultural festival was welcomed by Convener of the Local Organising Committee, Norman MacDonald. “It is highly appropriate that the Mòd should return to the Western Isles as the whole ethos and thrust of the Mòd is to showcase and celebrate our rich language and culture. Gaelic is still the community language of the Islands and Mòd attendees are assured of a genuine Hebridean welcome in the Western Isles this year.”

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar are also looking forward to the Mòd returning to the Western Isles, which is always a popular location with Mòd participants and audiences. Policy Officer for Gaelic at the Comhairle, Doileag MacLeod, said, “Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is delighted to support the event this year and we are looking forward to welcoming competitors and visitors to the events. The Comhairle has been, and continues to be, very supportive of the Gaelic language in all of its operations. We have taken the lead on the promotion and use of Gaelic and it is therefore appropriate that the premier Gaelic festival is being held in the Western Isles in October.”

Am Mòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail will be held in the Western Isles between 14-22 October 2016. For any further information regarding Am Mòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail, please visit www.ancomunn.co.uk or www.modnaneileansiar2016.com
